4. The Hormonal Challenge
The hormonal challenge is an issue every woman has to come to terms with. For some the once-a-month menstrual cycle can have such a huge effect on their emotional state: feelings of discouragement, anxiety, depression and anger can be ascribed to this period of a woman’s life. The change in emotion can easily affect the relationship she is in. Indeed, even if she is not in a relationship, the resultant feelings can make her change from desiring a relationship, to being happy and content on her own. Men experience the hormonal challenge every time they observe images of scantily dressed women on screen or read magazines, which depict women in a seductive way. Sensuous discussions can provoke hormonal reactions whereby there is a physiological response to the images that have been seen. Men are visual beings and easily aroused by what they see.
5 Lack of purpose
Dr Myles Munroe has stated, “Where purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable”. When a person does not firstly understand the purpose of a relationship, they will inevitably not know how to relate well to another person. The consequence can therefore lead to abuse i.e. taking the other person for granted, lack of love being demonstrated, physical attack etc. Secondly, if an individual lacks purpose or does not understand their purpose, the way in which they live their life can be affected because they are living a life without direction and meaning. Understanding your purpose gives you a good sense of self-worth. When a person understands who they are, the direction they are going in life and the goals they need to pursue; they are less inclined to be affected by the negatives that occur around them. If they are affected, it is considered only as a temporary setback for them. They are less likely to implode internally because they have a reason to face tomorrow.
6. Observing other relationships
the Public Display of Affection (PDA) of others can be a painful experience for the single that is on their own and has to observe friends and family in relationships who outwardly are giving the appearance of being in a loving and happy relationship. Whether this is the case or not, is another matter. However, it is the appearance of the Public Display of Affection that can cause the single person observing to wonder what is wrong with them and to question whether they will ever experience such a scenario themselves. In addition, observations of relationship as seen on the media can also cause pain for the single person as they attempt to live out a fantasy style of relationship. A style which is not the reality of most.
